When did the Easter Bunny die?

Who killed the Easter bunny?
Logic and reason or
an older sibling?

Or was it the Tooth Fairy,
in an unplanned rendezvous-
the same late date in a suburban home?

Childhood passes with hurdles,
accomplishments and mini revelations.

Burp before nap,
then control the neck
for sitting up.

Crawl yourself up to
first steps.
Eat solid food,
toilet train and lose the diaper.

My Mom's the tooth fairy and big bunnies
don't Santa style deliver chocolate.

It all runs this way as the child grows.

But what if you are 9 and believe in Santa,
Tooth Fairies and Easter bunnies?

Who kills the easter bunny
when you've already killed the ascension
but documented the crucifixion?

Logic and reason drive the future
but they empty the faithful
joy of bearded sled drivers
breaking and entering.

Logic and reason comfort the middle-
aged world traveler, but
they clip winged fairies,
caging the coin dispensing mysticism
that magically makes
Money appear under the pillow.

Logic and reason may eventually slay the Easter
bunny,
but I'll never tell.

My advice for this Easter of 2012 is
to hop away with your eggs and
do
put them in
one
big

family basket.
